Haiti

Haiti: As Columbus was discovering the wonders of Cuba, he decided to navigate up the northeast coast of Cuba and later found Hispaniola or present-day Haiti. Once he had reached Haiti he had to abandon one of his ships the Santa Maria, the locals of Hispaniola told him to leave men behind Columbus left 39 men. He then went on into the villages with the natives. Having to abandon the ship and 39 crew members all happened on Christmas day 1492. He later came to name the settlement La Navidad. Before returning back to Spain Columbus Kidnapped about 25 natives and brought them back to Spain and used them as slaves.
