Dominican Republic

Dominican Republic: On November 22nd, 1493 Columbus returned to Hispaniola so he could see the Fuerte de la Navidad or Christmas fort. The Christmas fort was built during his first voyage on the northern coast of Haiti. Fuerte de la Navidad was then wrecked as the natives, the Taino people destroyed it. Columbus then moved more than 100 kilometers to the east, where he then founded a new settlement. He called the new settlement La Isabela, with was also on the northern coast of Hispaniola but this time he was in the Dominican-Republic Although La Isabela was poorly located and shortly collapsed.
