Bahamas

Bahamas: Christopher Columbus’ first discovery was San Salvador or the Bahamas which he obviously found on the first voyage. Christopher Columbus left Spin with three ships: the Santa Maria, which was a larger ship, a carrack; the other 2 ships were small ships or caravels and were named the Pinta and the Nina. The Bahamas were sighted at 2 a.m. by a sailor named Rodrigo de Triana who was aboard the Pinta. Columbus later found out that natives from this island had scars from other people trying to capture them. Columbus then thought of taking six men back to Spain with him, for he thought that they would make good servants because they replied very quickly; and because he assumed they had no religion and that they could become Christians.
